Scholarship Announcement!

The Philadelphia regional Section of IFT offers financial scholarships in studies related to Food Science through its Scholarship Program. The Scholarship Program is designed as a recruitment tool for local colleges and universities that promote the advancement of Food Science/Technology or other closely related fields. The Philadelphia region entails schools in the following zip codes: 080-084, 087, 180-181, 183-185, 189-194, and 197-198. Scholarships may also benefit local area students who are pursuing degrees at institutions outside the immediate zip code areas. Lastly, the Scholarship Program is intended to provide local food companies with qualified, technically trained individuals to satisfy their employment needs.

Exact number of scholarships to be determined based on funding available. Scholarships will be offered to full time students pursuing degrees in Food Science/Technology or closely related fields. Scholarships are in the amount of $1000 and will be offered to high school seniors, college undergraduates and/or college graduate students who meet the eligibility requirements. Students who wish to be considered for these scholarships must be Philadelphia Section members and must apply via the official Philadelphia Regional Section IFT Scholarship Application Form. Scholarship Application

This application and all attachments (one original AND seven copies, in English) must be submitted directly to the Scholarship Chair by March 1, 2009. Letters of recommendation must be sent directly to the Scholarship Chair from the recommendor. Please provide appropriate address information to the recommendor. In addition, a copy of the entire application (minus letters of recommendation) must be provided to the department head at the college/university you are attending or planning to attend.

Along with this completed form you must also enclose the following attachments:

  • A copy of your transcripts of ALL college/university work you have completed to date. Note that a typewritten summary of your transcript is required in section IV and a typewritten summary of proposed courses that you expect to take to complete your curriculum in section V. High school seniors should submit high school transcripts as well as SAT/ACT scores with verbal and math scores itemized.

 

  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member familiar with your scholastic achievements. This letter should include a general appraisal of your scholastic achievements and potential, extracurricular activities and personal character traits in particular relation to the purposes and eligibility requirements of this scholarship program.

 

  • A second letter of recommendation from a second reference, preferably a non-faculty member familiar with your personal achievements and potential. This letter should include a general appraisal of your scholarship potential, extracurricular activities and personal character traits in particular relation to the purpose and eligibility requirements of this scholarship program.
