526    POSITION: FOOD SAFETY & HYGIENE SPECIALIST  received 27 January 2010
SCOPE OF POSITION:  While the primary focus of this position will be to work with Pinnacle Foods manufacturing facilities, this individual will work across other parts of the PFG Supply Chain including suppliers, co-packers and warehouses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop and implement Corporate Food Safety and Sanitation Programs, Policies and Procedures.
· Develop and carry out Corporate Food Safety and Sanitation Training within PFG locations and facilities
·Work closely with manufacturing locations to develop food safety and sanitation programs including HACCP Plans, SSOPs, Pest Control and improved GMP and Plant Hygiene procedures.
·Conduct Food Safety, HACCP, GMP and Sanitation Audits.  Issue timely audit reports and work with auditee locations to establish corrective action plans
. Approximately 50% travel required to plants, co-packers and suppliers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
·HACCP Certification
·Audit training (or certification – e.g. ASQ CQA). Formal Audit Training and Certification strongly preferred.
·Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work across functions.
·Creative/analytical problem solving skills and innovative approaches to resolve complex problems.
·Team building skills and experience.
·Extensive background developing programs to monitor and validate cleaning procedures (CIP, COP, etc.)
·Demonstrated experience in developing and/or managing plant sanitation programs.
·Strong Microbiology background.
EDUCATION:  BS in Microbiology, Food Science, Biological Science or equivalent.
Strong emphasis on microbiology
EXPERIENCE:
·A minimum of 5 years of experience working within a food manufacturing company required
·Plant QA, Food Safety or Sanitation experience
·USDA Experience Preferred

Job Responsibilities:

1. Set the strategic direction of the company in terms of proactive marketing of seasonings / flavor blends within targeted industry segments
Develops programs to support the initiatives
Works with Market Research data systems to analyze information, recognize and identify trends, and develop programs and demonstrations to target market segments or to meet specific customer needs / requests.
Works closely with R&D to market the company’s products and services by identifying trends in customer requests and developing programs (market segment specific, product demonstrations, literature) to take those trends to customers proactively
Identifies potential new customers or segments of opportunity
Product training coordination – customer requests, sales meetings
Facilitates the sharing of information and product successes to sales and the rest of the organization
Manage web site content and changes required.
2. Prepares situational analysis for any market issues (raw material, shipping, etc.) that could affect the business
3. Project management oversight
Reviews top projects on an ongoing basis to ensure we are on track
4. Support customer demonstrations with presentation materials
5. Work with ad agencies to develop and update literature
6. Work with ad agencies and trade show support groups to coordinate trade shows
7. Analyzes and reports on the competition
Develops programs to capitalize on competitive weaknesses

Job Description: Principal activities include developing and directing the development of natural & organic bars Education/Background & Experience:
* BS Food Science or Food Engineering
* 5 to 10 years of bar development experience
* New product development and applications experience for natural & organic bars Skills Required:
*An understanding of Organic Certification
* Excellent scientific and quantitative skills
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
* General lab skills and operation of lab equipment
Responsibilities:
* Identify, define, plan and execute product and or process development activities consistent with business strategies that result in the successful development of natural & organic bars and attainment of overall business objectives
* Provide expert and experienced judgment in the areas of product and process development, with specific emphasis on scale-up and commercialization start-up, as well as other areas of technical support to the business
* Ability to communicate and coordinate product development efforts with external contacts, which will include: vendors, co-manufacturers, consultants, universities, research organizations, and raw material & equipment suppliers
* Conduct sensory panels and provide feedback to appropriate parties for product improvement and maintenance
* Laboratory maintenance (calibrations, ordering supplies, sourcing equipment)
* Conduct and design pertinent shelf life studies
* Responsible for communication of status, negotiating at all levels of the organization, both internal and external to the Company, and influencing successful results of technical projects
Reports to the Director of Product Development.
Peer relationships include other product development staff within R&D, Quality, Operations, Procurement and Marketing
