Director of Corporate Quality Assurance

This position is a newly created position reporting directly to the
General Manager.
SUMMARY:
To identify and implement appropriate quality science techniques and
quality management methods in order to enhance operational performance
and product quality throughout the cocoa butter facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Oversee the deodorizer operation from design through start up and
become the main resource for the successful implementation of the new
processing plant to assure total customer satisfaction and economic
efficiency.
* Manage personnel at all sites engaged in Quality Assurance, i.e. those
operational techniques and activities aimed at monitoring processes,
inspecting materials and finished products and recording results for
management examination
* Develop the system to optimize process control and inspection so as to
ensure conformance of finished products to customer quality standards in
a cost effective total quality system.
Is designated as -Corporate- Safe Quality Food (SQF) practitioner with
the responsibility and authority to lead and assist in the development,
implementation and review of the SQF 2000 system. The practitioner will
take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF 200 system is
maintained or other designed Quality Systems which may be required in
the future by customers or regulatory agencies.
* Works in conjunction
with customer Quality and Procurement to approve raw material suppliers
and develop appropriate sampling, lot controls, and sample retention
library per customer requirements.
* Provide for an
adequate system of quality assurance that prescribes technically sound
methods of operation for key processes and generates sufficient records
to provide confidence to customers.
* Manage periodic
surveys (audits) to measure adherence to procedures.
* Develop a strategy
for supplier certification and work closely with customer to assure
quality performance of suppliers.
* Promote Cost of
Quality awareness throughout the organization
* Interface with
individuals in various roles throughout the organization engaged in
planning, problems solving and technical training
* Institute an
instrument analytical methods control procedures in Q.A. as necessary to
increase confidence in analytical results, reduce, disruptions resulting
from errors and improving reliability and repeatability
* Address critical
quality assurance needs through an ongoing program of assessment,
reducing chronic causes of customer dissatisfaction, reducing apparent
high costs and preventing failures of a catastrophic nature, (i.e.
recalls, loss of customers, etc.)
* Responsible for
insuring the annual QC, HACCP and Security audits at the processing
plant(s) are completed and in order to ensure adherence to Corporate
Standards. Including review of all quality control, production,
batching, warehouse, and sanitation records. As well as assisting the
plants in the development of a corrective action plan for deficiencies.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of a Bachelors degree (B.A.) in a scientific discipline, such
as, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or Microbiology with a minimum of
five years of experience in a food processing environment. Computer
application is also highly desirable. The selected individual must have
HACCP certification or proper training and experience in HACCP programs.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical
journals, financials reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to
common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or
members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and
articles for publications that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to effectively present information to senior management, public
groups and/or board of directors as may be required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability,
statistical, and algebra. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,
percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations associated
with Quality Assurance programs.
SUPERVISORY SKILLS:
Must be able to communicate effectively with associates under the
director's direct and indirect supervision, as well as communicating
with senior management.
