Sridevi Shivarajan Ph.D.
Sridevi
is currently a visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Business at Rutgers
Camden, and teaches courses in the OB/HR area with special focus on Ethics and
Corporate Social Responsibility.
Sridevi received her PhD in Organizational Behavior from the Fox School of
Business at Temple University in 2007. She also has a BTech in Civil Engineering
from Kerala University, and an MBA from Cochin University in India. Prior to
pursuing an academic career Sridevi belonged to the Indian Civil Services, and
held various managerial positions for over a decade with the Government of
India.
Sridevi’s research and teaching interests are in the area of ethics and corporate social responsibility in an international context. Her articles have appeared in the Journal of Business Ethics and in the special issue on sustainability by Edward Elgar publishing. Her recent paper on poverty alleviation is under second review from the Business Ethics Quarterly. Sridevi’s dissertation examined the issues surrounding the premature shut down of a Coca-Cola plant in Kerala, India, on charges of ecological damage. Her dissertation was funded by CIBER (Center for International Business Education and Research), and her dissertation based paper figured in the best paper proceedings of the Academy of Management’s annual conference 2008.
It was while teaching the Personal Leadership class to MBA students at Rutgers that Sridevi became deeply interested in the area of Authentic Leadership. Authentic leadership’s emphasis on values and personal integrity makes it a highly relevant leadership theory for organizations today. Sridevi now conducts regular workshops on authentic leadership through the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the School of Business, Rutgers Camden. These workshops are also offered pro bono to women in the community with no business education.
Sridevi is also an accomplished singer in Indian classical music, and regularly performs while in India.
